Brixton Photo Booth – Thursday night, 3 Feb at Brick Box from 6-9pm, and Saturday 5 Feb
Brixton Photo Booth is a contemporary restaging of Harry Jacobs’ famous photographic studio at Brick Box cafe.
Thoughout the 1950s, Harry Jacobs took a series of photographs of newly arrived immigrants living in South London, capturing a unique moment in British history, the advent of multiculturalism.
To celebrate the importance of Jacobs’ documentary work to London’s history, X Presents have recreated his studio in Brixton Village Market and invite you to be photographed. The photographs will be displayed at Brixton Library from 11th—14th February, then donated to the Lambeth Archives, as well as shown online.
Brixton Photo Booth is a project organised by X Presents, an artist-led non-profit organisation whose initiatives are based on values of collectivism.
